Today's picturesque, vital Risør
The sailingships in the inner harbour have been substituted with modern leisure boats, but with its white-painted facade toward the streets and ochre/red toward the backyards, the look of the town is very similar to what it was one hundred years ago. In order to preserve the town's unique neighbourhood of wooden houses in the future there has since 1991 been an antiquarian protection plan. The centre of the town has been classified as historically and architecturally highly interesting. Here there are houses of antiquarian value (built before parts of the town burned down in 1861) and of value for protecting (from the last part of the 19th century). Risør has become a favourite place to come to for Norwegian architects, among other things for the study of the town's many intimate areas.
The white-painted houses are fortunately
not only beautiful props. Concession laws have prevented these small
picturesque houses being bought by tourists. Risør is an authentic,
vital town where the windows are brightly lit all year round. Here there
are schools, shops, cultural life, café life, pubs, restaurants, galleries
etc. Together with a close proximity to nature and boat-life this represents
"the good life" in a small Southern-Norwegian town.
Our ambition is that our guests shall have the opportunity to be a part of this genuine Southern-Norwegian small-town environment by living in hotel suites well integrated in the town. For more information about Risør
