History:
Towards the end of the 19th century steamboats took over more and more of the freight. In Risør the shipping industry held onto the sailing boats for a long time. The fact that it did not switch over in time contributed to ending Risør's golden age as a seaport. Into the 20th century many of Risør's shipping companies were in trouble and going bankrupt.
