History:
At the end of the 19th century and throughout the 20th century, Risør was an important seaport, actually one of the largest in Norway. It had begun to obtain a rich middle class, many of which were of Danish and German ancestry. They built their fortunes through timber export, sawmills, ship-building and ship-owning. Risør's sheltered harbour and its situation by the sea was the perfect setting for this. The sailing ship era was Risør's golden age.

In the sailing ship suite we have collected pictures, miniature models, paintings and other items that belong to this golden era of Risør's history. Decorations made by Sigmund Årseth also reflect this age.
