The house is popularly referred to as "The Yellow House", the Vatican, or "The old seaman's house." The suite is situated on the house's ground floor with a view towards the small boat dock in Buvika. Pleasant garden with ocean view and multiple outdoor sitting areas. Parking and boat docking available. Short, scenic walk along the shoreline and Risør's harbor to the town square, approximately 800 meters.

Newly restored suite (2003) in a protected house from the 1750s. In Risør most houses are worthy of preservation, but only three including this one are actually protected by law. For long periods of time in the twentieth century the building housed retired seamen. Today the building consists of four suites (the Captain Suite and the Mate Suite on the ground floor, and the Boatswain Suite and Sailor Suite upstairs). The Mate Suite is approximately 45m2. Impressive, full kitchen with all modern conveniences. Bathroom with heated tile floors and shower cabinet. TV with twelve channels, CD player, and a maritime book collection. Bedroom with fine quality queen-sized bed. There is an extra hide-away bed in the living room. The suite is decorated with a folk theme with painted antique furniture. The dining area of this particular suite can accommodate up to eight people at the table allowing for gatherings of all guests in the house. The suite is non-smoking.

The mate's historic role:
The ship's mate has his post on the bridge and is responsible for all navigation. His goal is "to be able to navigate a ship through all the oceans of the world." In the hierarchy of the ship, the first mate had high rank. The first mate, for example, ate in the lounge with the captain, while the second and third mates had to be satisfied with the officer's mess with the machinist, first cook, electrician, and telegraphist.
