Maridalen's three albums have received rave reviews. The debut album was placed on the list of "Best Norwegian albums of the year" by Aftenposten, while the English MOJO Magazine placed the album on the list of "Jazz albums of the year".
All four musicians in the Maridalen trio with Erland Dahlen are from Agder, Vestfold and Telemark, but the trio takes its name from the scenic valley just north of Oslo town center. The valley also leaves its physical mark on the music itself, with recordings made both in the old wooden church in Maridalen and at one of the DNT cabins on Gressholmen.
After the brilliant reception of the debut, the follow-up Bortenfor was also mentioned among "The best jazz albums of 2022" in Dagsavisen, and "Album of the month" on German radio WDR.
In April 2023, the three set course for the island of Gressholmen in the Oslofjord, where they recorded their third album at one of the Norwegian Tourist Association's cabins. The album has received deserved attention from the Norwegian and foreign press, and the trio topped it all off with two sold-out release concerts during this year's Oslojazz, where they also brought Erland Dahlen as a guest. In the spring of 2025, they will bring their music home to Agder, Vestfold and Telemark. With concerts in Romania, the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark and England - with the highlight being the London Jazz Festival - they have also invited the international jazz scene into the beautiful valley.
